Easy Sudoku for Beginners — Start Solving Today

Think Sudoku is too hard or too "mathy"? It isn't — and easy Sudoku is the perfect place to start. There's no math involved, just simple logic, and beginner puzzles are designed to guide you gently. Here's how to solve your first puzzles with confidence and actually enjoy it.

Sudoku has no math — really

Sudoku uses numbers, but you never add or multiply. You just place the digits 1–9 so each row, column and 3×3 box has each number once. You could swap the numbers for nine colors and the puzzle would work exactly the same. If you can spot a missing item, you can solve Sudoku. (Full rules: how to play Sudoku.)

Start with easy puzzles

Easy Sudoku puzzles give you lots of starting numbers and gentle logic, so there's always a clear next move. They're the best way to learn the patterns without frustration — and they build the confidence to tackle harder grids later.

Two beginner techniques that work

1. Look for the "almost full" line. Find a row, column or box with only one empty cell — the missing number goes right there. 2. Find the "only place." Pick a number, like 5, and check each box: if there's only one cell where a 5 can legally go, place it. Repeat for each number.

That's genuinely enough to solve most easy puzzles from start to finish.
